It was one of those rare June days when the English coast feels almost Mediterranean.
The sky stretched clear and bright above the sea, the chalk cliffs gleamed white in the sunlight, and the air was alive with the cries of seabirds. Standing at the edge of the Bempton Cliffs seabird colony, camera in hand, I felt at once small and privileged: a witness to one of the UK’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
